My name is Matthew Watson and I am a therapeutic counsellor providing long term therapy and short term therapy from my practice based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
I graduated from University in 2020, gaining a diploma within therapeutic counselling. Since then I have been a full-time practising therapist, specifically a person centered and solutions focused counsellor supporting individuals, families and young people. Essentially person centred counselling translates to me getting to know you and your experiences through building a relationship based on no judgements, openness and honesty, empathy and unconditional positive regard.
Solutions focused counselling means I am able to help you focus on specific end goals for therapy if you find this helpful. We can measure these as we work together. I have the utmost respect for you and your experiences. I seek to get to know you, support you and co-ordinate your care whilst we work together and I am your counsellor. I look to identify your unique qualities, challenges and journey. Such methods can be extremely beneficial in the treatment and management of many conditions and presenting issues. Particularly anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, adhd, autism, hyper-vigilance, narcissism, relationships/relational issues, low self worth and disassociation.
Making the decision to see a counsellor is a big step to take - but it can be a positive one. Please read on to find out more about how I could help you.
I can provide you with a space, guidance and an environment to support you on the way to greater self-discovery. To enable you to examine your life and the situation/s in it (both past and present) to gain greater clarity and confidence, supporting you to make new meaningful choices within it. I bring considerable life experience, empathy, a non-judgemental approach, patience and kindness. I will support you to reflect on the difficulties, questions, problems and situations you are facing. I regularly support clients with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, adhd, autism, hyper-vigilance, narcissism, relationships/relational issues, low self-worth and disassociation.
Counselling takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy - and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.
This can be done in person or online via telephone, video or messenger.
Trouble with a relationship; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression - many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Counselling gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems - and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.
Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.

"Matthew is very patient and supportive. Having him as my therapist has been so helpful and comforting"
"Matt supported me when I was coming out of a narcissistic relationship. He has a huge ability to change his style to meet my needs at each session. He provided support to ensure I have learnt from the abuse, the ability to support me to set boundaries and challenge me when I may be slipping. I would wholeheartedly recommend him"
